New Favourite Photographer: Paul Octavious

Paul Octavious has an eye and imagination that most photographers dream of. I’m loving the dreamy self portraits with miniature airliners captured in jars; reportage-style shots covering Chinese New Year in Chicago; same hill different day images; and beautiful shots of United States’ wide expanse from the air.

No wonder there’s a lot of blogs like this one singing praises. New favourite photographer: Yes.

L.A. and Fashion in Technicolour – Peter Jensen & Autumn de Wilde

I’m a big fan of natural light in photography, especially in the bright American sun. Danish designer Peter Jensen’s quietly neutral Autumn / Winter 11 collection has been captured within the modern colourful sheen of Los Angeles by photographer Autumn de Wilde and stylist Shirley Kurata.

Jensen’s collection is inspired by the star of Godard’s Une Femme est Une Femme, Anna Karina, and uses a calm colour palette of whites, blues, calm reds and light greys in a simple 60’s style. Whilst the clothes are inspiring in themselves, the photography is natural and unforced; bright Californian sun and American environments provide an interesting and eye-cathing backdrop for the seemingly Scandinavian models and their almost disinterested poses.

And to add a little cred, the shoot features indie-pop ladies Tennessee Thomas and Diva Dompe.

An Android’s Memories

For this author, Tomasz Kaluzny’s ambient images of nightscapes are photographic nirvana. I’m not going to attempt any long musings on light, composition or location. Simply visit the Behance Network and let this series wash over you.
